    Emiel, hi!
Bravo for taking your travels back up! I know so many of my friends just “settle down” and go to the beach once a year…….How can you manage without seeing the world? I am very excited to follow your travel adventures and it’s giving me an itch to do my next post on one of my trips – I am thinking one of those Japan trips. Have you been there yet?

    • http://vandenboomen.wordpress.com Emiel van den Boomen

Thanks so much Farnoosh, your comment is uplifting!
Japan is great and yes, I have been there a couple of times. I studied Japanese and even lived a couple of months near Kyoto (back in 1996). I’m crazy about the country and its culture. Would love to go there again soon…
Thanks again and I’m looking forward to your post on Japan :)

  • http://semiubiquarian.wordpress.com Eden

Hi! I love your blog and I intend to follow through with your travels. :)

    • http://vandenboomen.wordpress.com/ Emiel

      Thanks Eden!
I just found your blog as well. Indeed, we as travelers have to write down our experiences before memories fade. Experiences should not only be pictures, stored on a hard disk somewhere :) You have described it very well Eden.

    Hi Emiel,

Thanks to “Freshly Pressed”, I found your blog. I have enjoyed reading your posts and will continue following.

I have a travel blog and need to pick up writing while managing the photography business. So far, I have some posts about some nice areas in China. Hope that you’d find them interesting!

    Hey Emiel,

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I really like your observations, and just the way you and your family dare to travel. And… no… it was not stupid to bike though the Valley of Death… If we get slapped after each thing we do, that others consider stupid… well… we would just miss a whole lot of fun!!!!!
    Keep writing.

    • http://vandenboomen.wordpress.com Emiel van den Boomen

Thanks Lukaeura! Glad you like the family travel stories! Traveling with kids is actually so easy and I hope families get inspiration by reading my posts. Hope to see you around here soon.

  • http://harindabama.wordpress.com harindabama

I Just found your blog and I have to say that I never read a travel blog like yours before. Almost every travel blog only tells about the places (including mine). But yours has something more (and different) to read, which is very nice.
I just started traveling again in 2010 and already planned for other trips. Apparently your blog has inspired me to write my future posts in a new way.
    Thanks for sharing!

    Cheers,
    Bama

    • http://vandenboomen.wordpress.com Emiel van den Boomen

Thank you very much Bama! I am so glad to hear that my writing inspires people like you, not only to travel to certain places but also how to write about them. Hope to see you around here more often!

  • http://mixxieboomboom.wordpress.com mixxieboomboom

    Hi emiel,

    Godbless and more power.

    • http://vandenboomen.wordpress.com Emiel van den Boomen

      Hi Mixxieboomboom!
I love fans lol! Thanks for your comment on my Japan post and all the other ‘Likes’. I am glad to learn that you appreciate my writings so much.
Keep continuing with your blog, I know from practice that it is very much worth the effort!

  • http://worldschooladventures.com/ Amy

Yeah! Another family that travels! My husband and I are gearing down to embark on a journey through Asia with our two children. I’ll be following your blog :)

    • http://vandenboomen.wordpress.com Emiel van den Boomen

      Dear Amy,
Thanks and what an adventure you are up to! I just subscribed to your blog and FB fanpage, to not miss out on your stories. What a great way to take your children on this amazing Asian trip. Let the world be your teacher is a great motto!

    • http://vandenboomen.wordpress.com Emiel van den Boomen

      Hi Riyad,

Thanks for your comment and the subscription to my blog! I had a quick look at your blog and see you come from Sudan. Wow, I guess you had a hectic period with elections and the forming of South-Sudan. I hope you will be able to travel and discover a new culture very soon!

  • http://www.hudsonfamily.ch/en Nadine Hudson

    Dear Dutch Family
Today, I found your website and will be back for a better read when I have a better internet connection. I feel connected to you and your family in several ways:

    - we are a travelling family too (we have travelled on/off since 1996 – 1996/1997 India and Nepal – 1998 to 2000 Asia – 2004 Morocco – 2005 to 2007 Asia – 2008 to 2010 China – 2011 Panamericas)
    - our first child was born shortly before yours (end of 2000)
    - we blog as well
    - we have just lived 30 months in rural China and I am currently writing on a book about it
    - the owner of the hotel we managed in China was a Dutch man like you
    - 7 life lessons learnt in Japan could be 700 life lessons learnt in China in our case
    - we are currently in our camper in Arizona heading for South America, however, luck is for the first time on our travels not on our side and we are just learning the 7000 life lessons of travelling when things don’t go smoothly

We will love to follow your adventures on your blog, wish you all the best and may our paths cross one day.

    Nadine Hudson

    • http://vandenboomen.wordpress.com Emiel van den Boomen

Thank you Nadine (and of course the rest of the Hudson family!) for this great comment!

What an amazing trip you have experienced already, I loved to read your list of our commanilities. We share lots of things indeed, also our love for Asia. Your time in China really did change you as a person, did it not?

Great to have also found your blog, I will follow you along your road to South America. 7000 life lessons, LOL. I believe you can already start with another book about this! Nevertheless I wish you all the best and let’s keep in touch!

  • http://ryangoesabroad.com Ryan

    Emiel,

I totally agree that travel gives you some of the best experiences of your life, and I am glad to see you writing about it… Cheers, man!

P.S. I was trying to find a contact form or email address on your site but couldn’t find it… help?

    • http://vandenboomen.wordpress.com Emiel van den Boomen

      Ryan,
Thanks! I will work on the design of my blog and I am glad you pointed that one out. I just wrote you an e-mail with my contact details. Looking forward to sharing more travel stories.

  • http://gutsywriter.com GutsyWriter

I just found you on Annabel Candy’s blog and am another travel lover. I agree it’s the best for your kids and we experienced a year of simple living with our three sons in Belize. This was the best thing that we could have done with our teenage sons. I lived in Nigeria as a kid then Paris and England, before ending up in California. Once it’s in your blood, it never seems to go away.

    • http://vandenboomen.wordpress.com Emiel van den Boomen

Hi Sonia (Gutsy Writer)! Great that we found each other through GetInTheHotSpot. Indeed, once it is in your blood…I believe spending money on travel is the best investment you can make. It will enrich you for sure.

  • http://mgg3.wordpress.com bringingtravelhome

just found you through a link on a blog I just started reading. Our youngest is about to turn 4 and we cannot wait to travel again…. We lived abroad pre-kids and I just started to blog about those experiences (before the memory fades!) – also Im interested in the idea of incorporating travel once you “settle down” back home with children. for sure, the passion to travel and experience other cultures doesn’t die, even if it needs to be placed on the shelf for a period of time. I look forward to following you.

    • http://vandenboomen.wordpress.com/ Emiel

      Dear Monique,
When I read your comment I hear myself talking 3 years ago. We waited until our youngest was 4 and off we went. Traveling is one of the best life lessons for children, at least that is what we believe. Once you have your blog up and running, send me a message please.

      • http://mgg3.wordpress.com bringingtravelhome

        thanks Emiel,
it’s up and running since last month and I’m slowly finding my voice….while my recent posts are memories of past travels and living abroad, I am hopeful I will soon be posting about current travels as well….. http://bringingtravelhome.wordpress.com/

  • http://www.hudsonfamily.ch/en Nadine Hudson

    Dear Emiel
I am sorry I cannot find your email address anymore. That’s why I post my question on your blog. I had written a blog post about “split souls of travellers” and I believe it ties in nicely with your “forked paths”. That’s why I want to ask you if it’s okay if I link my story to yours on our blog? I will publish the story in the next few days, but will first await your approval of the link.
Thank you for your great posts! Which I enjoy reading very much.

Admire parents who are brave enough to show the world to their kids – it is a great gift you’re giving them! Respect.

    • http://www.actoftraveling.com Emiel

Thank you Olga. We always have been passionate travelers and our belief is that the world is a perfect teaching ground for kids. Thanks for stopping by.

    Hi Emiel!
It’s been a while since I commented on your blog. By the way, recently I have been nominated to take part in “My 7 Links” project, which in my opinion is quite interesting. And I also nominated you to take part in this project because for me your blog is one of a few blogs that really stands out among the crowd! (something which I myself am still trying to do).
I hope you don’t mind being nominated in the project.
    Cheers,
    Bama

Hello Bama, nice to hear from you again!
What a great comment when you write that my blog stands out among the crowd, wow!
And no, I have certainly not forgotten about the 7 Links project. I still have it on my to-do list and hope to publish my ’7 Links’ very soon. It was great to be nominated by you, no worries.

I heard about your blog from “What an Amazing World” blog. I am looking forward to reading it. I have two children but always leave them at home. I haven’t even attempted to bring them anywhere exotic. We travel a lot in the States but never abroad. So I’m looking forward to hearing your ideas! I’ve been to a lot of places you traveled with your children yet by myself. So it will be interesting to get your perspective. Are they good sleepers?! How old are your kids?

    • http://www.actoftraveling.com Emiel van den Boomen

Thank you Thirdeyemom! You should definitely take them along, they adapt so quickly. Ours are now 10 and 7 years, but we started traveling when the first just turned 4. We went to Morocco that year and it was really great. They are very (I mean, very) good sleepers, I guess that’s an advantage indeed. Great to hear from you and I hope you find lots of inspiration here!

  • http://www.mariabrophy.com/ mariabrophy

Glad I found your blog.  We travel often with our son, who is now 10.  He’s been more places than most 60 year olds!  But, we want to travel even more, and we just found out that we are taking in an 11 year old niece, who will go with us as well – so I’ll be looking for tips from you!

    • http://www.actoftraveling.com Emiel van den Boomen

Hello Maria and Welcome! I just read your article called “How to live a life of travel”. Great article with statements that I of course fully support :)   I trust you will get some great tips and inspiration here and don’t hesitate to send questions by email (emiel@actoftraveling.com). In past months we have created a great tribe of traveling (or Wandering) families from around the globe that are ready to help others live their travel dreams!
